8De4 3
You’ve seen Nardi’s BSA chopper featured on this site many times - you’ve probably also seen it in the pages of The Horse, getting gushed over on a bunch of different messageboards, and routinely at the top of the winners podium at a number of local bike shows. Well here’s your chance to own it. Chris has put the bike up on ebay in a no reserve auction, so the highest bidder is going to walk away with a seriously kick ass bike.

Yamaha XS 650 Street Trackers

Picture 20112 Fs

Mule Motorcycles aka Richard Pollock builds some of the raddest Yamaha XS650 Street Trackers around – actually most of his builds are pretty sick. Very few people are putting this level of detail into these bikes - at least here in the states. It’s nice to see someone more concerned with using this platform to build kick-ass bikes and not trying to cheap out on it. Check out his site here:

Atomic Customs Built Panhead Chopper

Pan1-1

Trent from Atomic Customs built this bitchin’ Panhead chopper for Tim from Skateloaded.com and then Gary Griffin from Good Luck Photo took some seriously killer pics of it.

The bike is really straight up classic, all the bits and pieces fit and flow together really well. The megaphone muffles great and yup, that’s a Warbird taillight chillin on the sissy bar.

The photo above and the first photo below were shot by Gary. The others are from Trent.

Cro Customs: Will’s Hood Rat

Edrhoodrat 050-2

Caleb at Cro Customs built this bad ass shovelhead for his pal Will. Caleb sent me just a short note about it…

My good friend JD helped out in the final days, pulling together the light mount, pipes, tank and other odds and ends. This thing was thrown together from Will’s pile of parts in a week or so.

What could you “throw together” in a week or so? Exactly. Saying he nailed it is beyond obvious. For some reason this bike reminds me of thrash metal. Looks raw, fast and ready to mosh… that’s right, mosh.

Small Displacement Choppers

Motorcycle Power Tools hand tools welding metalwork
With the never ending rise in gas prices, I think you’re going to be seeing a lot more small CC motorcycles on the road. Old cheap bikes that are reliable and get 70+ mpg, although I’m sure just like Europe, Scooters will have a stronger presence. But, with the increase in numbers, you’re going to see a lot more bikes like this one from German Karp - guys taking small displacement bikes and modifying the shit out of them. There will be a lot of crap on this front, but thankfully, we’ve got guys like German who just kill it and get it right. Cool little bike with a bit of brat-style influence, I bet it’s a blast to carve up the city roads with.

To see more pics and read all the details from German, click read more below.

This is a 1938 NSU OSL 251 single that was on ebay not too long ago. Really cooly little bike, I don’t know much about them outside of the fact that they were made in Germany and pretty rare here in the states (this one was for sale in California). Frankly, I just think it’s a shit hot looking bike.

Classic Bike Dossier: Triumph Daytona

Vintage Triumph Daytona

The baby Bonneville
By Alan Seeley • Photography by John Noble

Triumph’s 500cc Daytona has the looks of it’s 650cc siblings, but the riding experience is very different.

Racing, they say, improves the breed, and it was a much-improved 500cc Triumph twin that won the 1966 Daytona 200, beating the all-conquering KR Harleys into submission. With that victory, Triumph had found the name for a new sporting twin and an incentive to build it. It was a shrewd commercial decision, particularly as the company went on to fill seven of the first 12 places at the following year’s race.

That was the Triumph Daytona road bike’s first model year and already the lessons learned on the track were transferring to the macine that the punters could buy - twin carbs, a new cylinder head, higher compression, sportier camshafts and a much revised frame compared to the earlier 500s. Further racing derived evolution would follow.

The Daytona is regularly referred to as the Baby Bonneville. Those svelte lines echo the look of Triumph’s gorgeous export Bonnies and that desirable appearance translated into good worldwide sales for the Daytona. But the nickname doesn’t describe the ride because the Daytona’s engine characteristics are so different to the Bonnie’s. Where the Bonneville is lazy and torquey, the Daytona is buzzy and revvy. With it’s bore and stroke of 69 x 65.5mm the engine is oversquare and so plenty of revs are needed to keep things going.
