Wally’s XS650 Chopper

Sent in from Wally at Wally’s Speed Shop
I’ve been restoring and building bikes in my garage for years so I’m sending you some pics of my latest bike build. She’s a ‘77 XS650 I purchased for $675. and after six weeks of work and about $1,200. worth of parts, she’s ready to roll.
Click read more for the rest and additional pics….
I cut the stock frame and welded on a TC Bros. Hard Tail. I fabricated the oil tank/electrical box that holds the ignition switch, main fuse, regulator, and rectifier. I also made the battery box and all the brackets (exhaust, fender brace, footpeg mounts, highway peg mounts), and rear brake assembly. She has a used Sportster tank and an old fender that I cut down with a cutting wheel. I had a friend spray the red paint with the black racing stripe on the tins and another friend powdercoat the frame, handlebars, electric box, battery box, and all the brackets. I cut the Jack Daniel’s “Old No. 7 Brand” logo from vinyl on a plotter at work and adhered them to the electrical box to break up all the black.
The engine is stock with black heat paint applied. The tail light is a trailer lamp I bolted on to my home made rear lamp/license plate bracket and I bolted on an old Bates Headlight I had laying around.
That’s pretty much it. I always wanted a nice bobber/chopper to knock around town on but never had the cash to build a high end ride. I think she looks and rides great for a custom chop under $2k.
